What an incredible year 2011 has been! It all began with Stephen & I creating art for a group show called The Archaic Revival curated by Dani Tull in the spirit of Terence McKenna's psychedelic visions. We danced from island to desert to hot springs. Around March Prism Of Threads was born. It has empowered me on so many levels. Being able to find & share amazing vintage while reviving old textiles has been an epic journey. Looking forward to what 2012 will bring!

This weekend I'm going out to Joshua Tree to see The Entrance Band. They're one of the best bands around and some of my favorite people! They tour the country in a yellow school bus and surf waves along the way. I love their spontaneous electric energy & how it inspires public nudity, dancing & Dionysian behavior. With a makeup brush in one hand and a camera in the other Veronica Ibarra transforms herself and her subjects. She captures self expression and invokes a timeless place. She is an inventive spirit that can create magic with whatever surrounds her. Inspiring to no end, I love Veronica's eye and those red lips.

Here are some photographs from when I lived in New York City. Veronica and I lived in the East Village a few blocks from each other. We fed chocolate muffins to squirrels while we sipped our coffee in the park. Late night drunken cheese pizza and feet sore from dancing in our platforms. I miss our wild New York days!

I was always amazed by the new face Veronica had created for me!

The Dogon are a people from Mali, in West Africa, believed to be descended from ancient Egyptians. Their belief system includes astronomical information so detailed and accurate that many wonder how they came to acquire this knowledge of the universe.

According to the Dogon, they were visited by a race of extra-terrestrial beings called the Nommos thousands of years ago. The Nommos were ugly, amphibious beings who landed on Earth in a spinning ark, causing great noise and wind. They came from a star invisible to the human eye which orbits the bright star Sirius every 50 years. They shared with the Dogon knowledge of Jupiter's four moons, Saturn's rings, and the fact that the planets in our solar system orbit the sun. This influences their ritual life and art, and they celebrate the orbit of the Nommos' home star.

The past several weeks have been busy for Prism Of Threads! This weekend I will have a booth at the illustrious vintage show A Current Affair. I've been preparing a collection of vintage textile huipil inspired dresses & silk screened my own P.O.T neon magic mushroom shirts. Joining me at the booth will be my beautiful friend Rhiannon selling her Ghost Dancer jewelry; one of a kind Native American inspired beaded earrings.

Artist Edith Abeyta will create a site specific installation for A Current Affair! She uses salvaged material to create these free form sculptures.

They journey began at the sacred Zuni Dowa Yalanne mesa or Corn Mountain. Closed to outsiders, I could feel the Zuni ancestors as I approached the mountain. The mesa dates back to the Jurassic Period (135-180 million years ago) when it was formed by sand dunes. Its mythology name is the "House of the Gods and the making of Rain, Lighting and Thunder." Another highlight of this Southwest excursion was visiting Sessann of the amazing Earth Age blog, Cosmic Dust tumblr & creator of Three Arrows Leather. Off the grid of electricity, phone & modern convenience, we headed into the wilderness. There was sage as far an the eye could see. She lives in an Earthship (a solar powered house made of recycled materials) at 7,000 feet! It was one of the most freeing experiences to truly be with nature. We also stopped at the Petrified Forest (a field of fallen rainbow logs that are 225 million years old) in Arizona & viewed ancient petroglyphs. What a trip!

What's old is new & you can't get any older than Sumerians. Thousands of years before Egypt's old kingdom, these marsh dwellers were recording their lives and legends in cuneiform script. The calendar and mathematics we use today were given to us by the Sumerians. They claimed to have learned many of these secrets from Oannes, a deity with the body of a fish and a man's body beneath, which lived in the Persian Gulf and emerged periodically to provide instructions. No one can say exactly where this knowledge came from, but it served as the foundation of civilization and marked the beginning of recorded history. Their achievements in astronomy and architecture were unparalleled in the world of 3000 BC. What the ancients knew, we have yet to comprehend.....

It took place at the Journal gallery in New York City and featured his photography, poetry and performance. I experienced his vision of a creative utopia over many nights. Weekly dinner gatherings were open to all.
